Questions & Answers
Travel and arrival
1. Which airport should I fly to?
Zurich Airport (ZRH), Geneva Airport (GVA), EuroAirport Basel (BSL) and Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) are options for travelling to Zermatt. Compare the flight and complete onward journey to choose the most convenient airport. Use these airport codes when searching for flights.
2. How long does it take to reach Zermatt from the airport?
As a guide, the journey by train takes around 3½ hours from Zurich Airport and around 4 hours from Geneva or Basel Airport. Please check the timetable for your specific connection. For Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP), check the onward train or transfer connection for your travel date; journey times depend on the route and connections.
3. How do I get to Zermatt?
Zermatt is car-free and can be reached by train. If you are driving, park in Täsch and continue to Zermatt by shuttle train or an authorised taxi.
4. Can I drive directly to the hotel?
Private cars cannot drive into Zermatt. Drive to Täsch, park there and continue to Zermatt. For mountain properties, an additional mountain railway, cable car or walking route may be required; see the property-specific arrival information.
5. How long does the train from Täsch to Zermatt take?
The shuttle journey takes approximately 12 minutes. Trains normally run every 20 minutes; please check the current timetable for your travel date.
6. How do I get around Zermatt?
Zermatt is easy to explore on foot. Electric taxis and local electric buses are also available. Your hotel can advise on the best route from the station.
7. Where can I buy ski passes or mountain railway tickets?
You can buy them through the company “Zermatt Bergbahnen” directly. You may find the link here.
8. How do I travel from Zermatt to 3100 Kulmhotel Gornergrat?
Take the Gornergrat Railway from its valley station directly opposite Zermatt’s main railway station. Stay on the train to the final stop, Gornergrat. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes, and the hotel is beside the mountain station. If you arrive by car, leave it in Täsch and take the shuttle train to Zermatt first.
9. Is the Gornergrat Railway ticket included in my stay? Which ticket do I need?
Transport is not included in the hotel stay. You need a valid Gornergrat Railway ticket for the journey from Zermatt to Gornergrat and back. Please check the ticket options for your travel dates with the railway; if you plan to ski, check which ski pass covers your journey instead of assuming a standard railway ticket is suitable. The hotel states that ski passes can be bought at the Gornergrat Railway station.
10. What is the last suitable train for check-in, and what happens if I miss it?
The last train varies by season and date. Before travelling, check the official Gornergrat Railway timetable and allow approximately 45 minutes for the journey. Plan to arrive in time for dinner, which begins at 18:00. If you think you may miss the last train, call the hotel immediately on +41 27 966 64 00. Do not assume that you can reach the hotel by taxi or on foot after rail service ends.
11. Can I bring large suitcases, and is luggage transport available?
The railway brings you to the station beside the hotel. For an overnight mountain stay, we recommend bringing only the luggage you need and choosing bags you can handle yourself. Please contact the hotel before travelling if you have large or numerous suitcases. The railway lists baggage services at its Zermatt and Gornergrat stations, but that does not establish a hotel-to-hotel luggage transfer.
12. Can I reach the hotel during bad weather or a disruption to the railway?
Access depends on the Gornergrat Railway operating. Mountain conditions can change quickly, so check its current service information and timetable before travelling. If your train is disrupted or cancelled, contact the hotel immediately on +41 27 966 64 00 for advice about your reservation. Please do not attempt an unplanned hike to the hotel in poor conditions.

Rooms, families and pets
16. Is the hotel suitable for guests who may be affected by altitude or have limited mobility?
The hotel is at 3,100 metres above sea level. If you are concerned about how altitude could affect you, seek advice from your healthcare professional before booking. The Gornergrat Railway says its trains have low-floor carriages for wheelchair users, but railway accessibility does not confirm that a particular hotel room and all hotel areas are accessible. Please contact the hotel on +41 27 966 64 00 with your specific needs before booking.
Dining and included meals
17. Which meals are included? Where and when are dinner and breakfast served?

18. Are there any restaurants in the hotel? Do I need to make a reservation?
Yes. The hotel lists Glacier Alpine Kitchen, saycheese!, Sky Lounge and Tiger Bowl. Glacier Alpine Kitchen serves dinner to overnight guests from 18:00 to 20:00. Its published daytime hours are Wednesday to Sunday, 11:30–15:00; the other venues have their own opening hours. We recommend booking a table if you would like to visit for lunch, particularly during busy periods. Overnight guests should confirm their dinner arrangements with the hotel.
